Title: HEAD COACH                                                                                         File 404

 

Reports to: Activities Director

 

Job Objective: Uses technical expertise to coach the assigned athletic activity.

 

Minimum 

Qualifications:

 

· Meets all mandated health requirements.

· A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.

· Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.

· Relevant coaching experience. Knowledgeable about interscholastic athletic program regulations.

· Completion of state activity supervisory permit requirements (e.g., first aid/CPR, etc.).

 

NOTE: Supplemental contracts are offered to qualified certificated staff with appropriate training, knowledge, and experience. Unfilled positions may be offered to other suitable applicants meeting department of education permit requirements.

· Displays acts of sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity towards visiting coaches, athletes, spectators, and officials.

· Maintains a professional appearance at all times, and demonstrates self -control and poise in all areas relating to coaching.

· Develops respect from players by example in appearance, manners, behavior, language, and conduct at all times.

· Is fair, understanding, tolerant, sympathetic and patient with other coaches and team members.

· Monitors innovations, evaluates activities, and recommends program improvements effectively.

· Demonstrates exceptional knowledge of sport and successfully implements appropriate strategies. (Ability to motivate, discipline, etc.)

· Communicates with Activities Director and makes him/her aware of unusual events.

· Promotes effective communication and utilizes problem solving techniques to tactfully address questions and concerns.

· Uses a variety of teaching methods to make sure participants understand skills including but not limited to video-taping, varied equipment, guest presenters.

· Displays cooperation in working with other teams, school groups, service clubs, etc.

· Participates in all Activity Advisory Committee meetings, sport specific conferences and other required School, District, and League activities.

· Establishes a list of appropriate team rules for the Activities Director’s approval.

· Participates in athletic recognition programs. Verifies that all participants have fulfilled all requirements for lettering, awards, and/or certificates.

· Organizes team tryouts and follows established squad selection procedures.

· Selects the most qualified coaches that strengthen and develop the entire program

· Has good rapport with entire athletic coaching staff as well as developing integrity within individual program.

· Provides training and mentoring of coaches below the varsity level.

· Works well with MS coaches and administration in developing practices schedules, philosophies, strategies, etc.

· Assists Activities Department in securing personnel for contests when requested.

· Maintains positive relationships with participants and parents.

· Demonstrates ability to motivate players and coaches and encourages involvement in program activities.

· Is responsible for providing either a summer camp or a calendar of off-season opportunities to develop players.

· Provides adequate supervision at each practice session and at all contests of the sport, which includes supervision of the locker, shower, and weight room areas. Discipline and rules are consistent with the procedures adopted by the GEVSD. Takes precautions to ensure safety.

· Provides guidance, communicates expectations, and shows an active interest in student progress.

· Maintains contact with students during the off-season in regards to training, goals, behavior, and grades.

· Teaches precautions and procedures to help students prevent injuries and ensures that equipment is appropriate for participants’ physical development and skill level.

· Recruits, trains, and supervises student managers, trainers, and scouts.

· Shows organizational skills with Activities Dept. and turns in required paperwork in timely fashion (physical forms, emergency medical forms, reports, participant and parent end-of-season evaluations, etc).

· Has follow-up skills which include checking his/her mailbox, emails, voicemail, and responding in a timely fashion.

· Works well with newspaper, radio, and television and provides results and statistics in a timely fashion.

· Effectively oversees Athletic budget for grades 7-12 and operates within that budget.

· Follows proper procedures for purchase order requisitions and Booster Club funding requests. Participates in fundraising projects and events.

· Complies with department transportation request deadlines and monitors participant bus behavior.

· Distributes, collects, organizes and keeps inventory of all uniforms and athletic equipment. Is concerned about the care of equipment.

· Supervises collection, verification, and recording of program information. Maintains accurate team and individual records.

· Participates in clinics or in-service programs related to his/her sport in order to become a more effective coach.

- Attends and participates in Coach Beyond Training provided by the Athletic Department.

· Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.
