As a volunteer coach, you are treated by local, state, and federal law as being an unpaid employee of the agency in which you are associated with. Therefore, you must conduct yourself in the same manner you would your own job. In the same respect, you will receive the same treatment, aside from compensation and benefits, as the employees of the Granville Exempted Village School District.
Title: Volunteer Coach
Reports to: Athletic Director and Head Coach
Job Objective:
- Coach male and female athletes grades 7-12.
- Coach is considered a role model for athletes assigned to his/her team, therefore sportsmanship, fair play, and full participation are mandatory.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid state department of education license/certificate appropriate for the position.
- Meets all mandated health requirements.
- A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
- Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.
- Complete Code of Conduct, liability wavier, background check, job description, and attend coaching education course.
- Conduct self in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner at all times.
- Provide patience and organization for participants on your team.
Essential Functions:
- Attend all scheduled coaches’ meetings and training sessions.
- Conduct a short parents’ meeting at first practice - introduce self, give contact info, etc.
- Plan, Supervise, and Facilitate safe and effective coaching practices that are suitable for the age and ability of the participants.
- Supervise safe arrival and departure of children; supervise children and assistant coaches during practices and games.
- Learn and adhere to athletic league rules, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain any and all equipment provided by the District and return in its same condition at the conclusion of the season.
- Report any incidents to the Site Supervisor, Head Coach or Athletic Director.
Working Conditions: To promote safety, employees are expected to exercise caution and
comply with safety regulations and district policies/procedures when involved in the following
situations/conditions.
- Balancing, bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching and standing.
- Exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.
- Exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
- Interactions with aggressive, disruptive, and/or unruly individuals.
- Operating and/or riding in a vehicle.
- Lifting, carrying, and moving work related supplies/equipment up to 50 lbs.
